Richard Moon began by welcoming members to the AGM and a vote was taken on the makeup of the committee.  All existing members were re-elected.  In addition, Joan Roberts volunteered to be an additional committee member, and this was approved. Jane Steward has also indicated she would like to help out with the committee’s activities, although she was not here, so we didn’t know if she wanted to be formally elected.  She is, however, very welcome to sit in with the committee and to help out.

Richard reported on the year’s activities, including the painting day and exhibition associated with the St Kyneburgha’s Church 900th anniversary, and the summer exhibition.  Joan Picket provided some facts and figures on the exhibition, and the public voted Jean Edwards’ painting the “best in show”.

He summarised the professional demos and workshops, and said the slimmed-down programme had worked well, and there was general agreement that having some of the sessions in the daytime allowed more people to attend.  We have gained some members via the website, and Di Jones confirmed that numbers on Monday mornings were quite healthy.

Carole Moon gave the treasurer’s report, which showed we have made a healthy profit this year, making up about the same amount as the previous year’s loss.

There was then a general discussion amongst the committee and members about a programme of events for next year.  Suggestions included:
•    A summer painting day, similar to this year’s at the church.  A venue would need things like parking, toilets and a lunch stop, and       the Nene Valley Railway at Wansford, and Burghley Park were suggested.
•    Sally Hammerton had seen us this year, and she does a collage and mixed media workshop.
•    Nick Tearl is based in West Deeping, and does fenland scenes in oils.
•    Sarah Heather has retired from her day job and is now a full time artist.  She is based in Ely and works in acrylics.
•    Andrea Naylor’s pastel workshop was popular this year.
•    Members of Peterborough Artists Open Studios might be available for demos.
•    Neen Sidnell might like to do a demo, and her work is well liked.

We discussed the possibility of joining the SAA.  The merits were discussed, which includes a discount in their online shop, and some liability insurance.  It was felt that other online art suppliers were probably just as good as SAA, even with the discount.  The insurance was worth considering, and there was a discussion about what it would cover, and whether we need it (for example, to what extent we are already covered by the Cedar Centre’s insurance).  We will investigate this further, but with SAA club membership estimated to be about £100-£150, we might be able to find cheaper insurance elsewhere.  We will review this at the next committee meeting.

We are now taking membership subscriptions for this year.  As we are quite sound financially, there is no need to put up our prices.  Richard will email members about membership fees, and also about meal choices for the Christmas meal on 13 December.  He was also asked to seek new paintings for the website from members.
